NightJohn by gary paulsen

For my Nightjohn project I chose to do a newspaper article.

I AM NOT MYSELF THESE DAYS BY JOSH KILMER-PURCELL

This was the memior that I decided to read for my Quarter 1 Biography. We were to do a Glogster, which as you can see is basically an online poster, on our chosen biography.

MY FAVOURITE ESSAY

Over the course of Quarter 1, our class wrote four 5-Paragraph essays: one on "The Interlopers," one on "Sound of Thunder," a Compare-Contrast Essay on these two works, "A'int I A Woman," "Towards a True Refuge," and the Compare-Contrast Essay on these two works. Of these four essays, I chose my favourite that I wrote, which was "The Sound of Thunder", to share with y'all.

QUARTER 1 REFLECTION

In Quarter 1 English 10 I learned the proper format for a 5 paragraph thesis essay, how to annotate in a ways that I understood and yet while still recording key points, and overall that English class doesn't have to be so unpleasantly dull.

To me the most meaningful assignment that we did was the Nightjohn assignment. i think that it was what I gained the most from. Perhaps because it was not something that I did within a few class periods, but over two weeks in this case and there was much more to it rather than just reading the book and answering a few questions on it. We also had to do a project (which I included above). Something that I had wished we had skipped might have been...actually, now that I think about it, there wasn't anything I would have preferred to skip. I believe that everything I did in class has helped me to do better.

In Quarter 2 I am looking for ward to the next book assignment (I really love reading). Besides that I am looking forward to writing more essays and hopefully learning about some new things, reading different works of literature, and exposing my self to different topics.

FALL SEMESTER: QUARTER 2

THE HOUSE ON MANGO STREET BY SANDRA CISNEROS

For my project I chose to do the ten years later. I basically just wrote how I think the story would go on after the story ended.

COMEDY ANIMOTO

It's Kind of a Funny Story by Ned Vizzini was the comedy/satire that I read as my book of choice. So I did an Animoto book trailer for it. Overall, I enjoyed this assignment, though this book wasn't really what I would consider a humor/satire book.Though I suppose it is considered one because of the tone of the writing, whcih was along the lines of a John Green novel, but without all the unnecessary words.

NIGHTJOHN LITERARY ANALYSIS: ROUGH DRAFT

Link: https://docs.google.com/document/d/1bhFi1N27cdaFKgArEX4WEgAdiILjXUkrukG_DWaazxM/edit

The Nightjohn Literary Analysis is a year long writing assignment assigned to all the 10th graders. The other grades have different types of writing assignments to complete. My rough draft is linked above.

QUARTER 2REFLECTION

In Quarter 2 I learned about humor and satire books and how to write extended analysis essays.

To me the most meaningful assignment that we had this quarter was the Nightjohn literary analysis essay rough draft because it was the longest and the most intensive of them all. Since it is a full year assignment that we are working on, it sort of makes sense. The literary analysis of Nightjohn allowed me to expand on the thoughts that I already had on the book overall and form much more in dept analysis' than what I would have if I did not expand on the normal 5 paragraph essays that are customary.

There is nothing that I would have wanted to skip this quarter.

In Quarter 3 I am looking forward to the final draft of the Nightjohn Literary Analysis Essay because I would like to find out how successful or unsuccessful it will be by the end of the year, or whenever it is actually due.
